29th August 2011

Welcome goes to Craig and Duncan who joined the club recently. Craig thoroughly enjoyed himself, finding the ki exercises both baffling and inspirational in how they work. Good!
Duncan who has been graded to yellow-belt is keen to practice with us after Puriton Aikido was recommended to him from his sensei.
Yes, well we are awesome.
Congratulations to David Armistead and Neil Faint for passing their blue-belt exam this passed Wednesday's practice.
Well done!

Welcoming Kevin and Tim to the club this evening, who both had smiles on their faces as Sensei Hindle taught various 'mind controlling the body' exercises.
Glad to see you enjoyed yourselves. Perhaps we will see you on Sunday.

1st August 2011

The return to training on Sunday went very well with five eager students on the mat and our sensei looking forward to teaching.
Joining us for the first time was Alex, who through years of a particular school of judo practice, understood some of the principles behind aikido right away. He enjoyed himself, even though his gi was two sizes too small...

Congratulations go to Clive Meaker who passed his yellow-belt grading this afternoon - well done.
You have impressive ki for an early start in aikido and easily passed your grading. We can see kokyunage is soon becoming your favourite!
Thanks go to Dave Armistead for being your uke.

A meeting was held for the club yesterday which addressed various topics. Thanks to the members present we all came away with answers to everything. This is great news for the continuing running of the club - its practices, funds and members' roles.
Minutes from the meeting can be obtained from Neil or our Facebook page.

Today was Sensei’s last practice session here at the Puriton Aikido Club…this year. We say this year because quite frankly he’s not getting away with not coming back to the club forever, as nice as Thailand may be! So expect our invitations for you to hold a course here whenever we notice even a sniff of a return to England.
We all agree it has been a privilege to learn true aikido from a true 8th dan. The dojo won’t feel the same, but we will follow your teachings with a smile and continue in your leave with grace and virtue.
All the best Sensei with your newest steps. We'll see you again!
- Everyone at the club

A presenting was made this evening after class to our Sensei, as a parting gift and token of our appreciation. An embroidered gi; the club’s logo on the breast. Thank-you Sensei for all you have done for the club and we wish you all the very best for your future.
Our loved member Nang, who will of course be leaving to Thailand with Sensei, was also presented with a gift. We hope it will make you smile whenever you see it! Goodbye Nang, you will be missed.
Lastly, and littlest... I big hug from the club to our youngest member, Nicki, who'll be journeying with her family also. It's good to know although the distance may be long, you'll a part of the club always and never stop being a member.

22nd April 2011
|
It is with some sadness that the club brings this news today, that our Sensei will very soon be leaving for pastures new; the Land of Smiles - Thailand, and that this May 1st will be our final oppotunity this year to practice aikido under his generous schooling.
For now, that's all we'll say. Everyone's welcome for a farewell aikido lesson - Sunday, May 1st.

13th April 2011
|
This Tuesday some of the club's members got together for some aikido practice with Sensei. Sensei John Creed and friend, Kerry Holmes, also joined us, which was lovely.
Sensei Creed is a 2nd dan who holds sessions at his own club in West Huntspill, here: http://www.somerset-aikido.org/ . Both himself and Kerry enjoyed themselves with John commenting on how relaxed the practice felt and Kerry explained how the ki development side helped her relax, as she thought of her centre.
Perhaps we'll see you both again soon, it was a pleasure to have you there. I'm certain Nicki enjoyed shorty-nage!

7th March 2011
|
The club welcomes a return from member Emma, who has been away from practice for some months, having started to learn a little in aikido back in June.
The first class to be taken at the Highbridge dojo this Sunday went well under Sensei Hindle's tutorship. With all the mats in one place it persuades for some good dynamic aikido.

21st Febuary 2011
|
This Sunday at the Highbridge club was the first time in a while now that all our members were together at practice.
Great! Brilliant atmosphere.
It was good to learn aikido with Gareth, who has many commitments elsewhere. We don't see him enough. *sad face*
The club decided that our practices will all be at the Highbridge dojo in the future. So after this Sunday's last session at the Puriton dojo, that's where you'll find us. Sunday's practice will commence at 17:15 until 19:15. You may enter the dojo to help setup the mats and change from 16:30.
With the club practicing at the one dojo from now on, all our mats wil be in one place - so plenty of area to throw Dave around!

18th Febuary 2011

Sunday's practice will be at the Highbridge dojo. Attendees will be welcome from 16:30 with the session commencing close to 17:00.

*UPDATE - This Sunday practice will *very likely* take place at the Highbridge dojo at 17:00. Check back for details as we recieve the booking notice.
