The Puriton Aikido Club is run by its members. Our sensei is Richard, a 5th dan practitioner for many years who has trained under and befriended Chris Wilmot sensei, 8th dan, who emigrated to Thailand in May 2011. We are undoubtedly honored to train as members under these sensei's tutelage.
What can I expect from the Puriton Aikido Club?
Training begins with warm-up exercises. Once limbered, partner exercises follow using ki flow and control, and then balance and movement orientated techniques. Students take turns performing and receiving the training techniques demonstrated by our sensei.
Aikido in essence can not be a sport, it is a way one choose to follow. Discipline is maintained through the traditions of respect taught by O'Sensei, however throughout the classes you can expect a very friendly, relaxed environment in which you'll feel confident to speak-up and join in with.
A rating system is in effect. The criteria for rated progression are the executions of specific techniques, a number of hours trained, and students understanding in all aspect of aikido principles.
You should feel as you learn, that your mind and body does not come to know everything there is to the art, but is ever growing in its usage - throughout your life's entirety.
What we expect from our fellow aikidoka
Having a non-competitive nature is a good start to being able to learn from Sensei and students alike, rather than battling it out with them. In the Puriton Aikido Club, having respect for the mind and body of your partner and teacher alike is essential to understanding energies within aikido.
Wanting to progress using a presence of mind, understanding and willingness to happily participate whenever you can come to sessions, is very much encouraged.
